In 2011, with the last of three children leaving home,
Alison Pentland was ready to re-enter the work force.
An anthropologist by education and a self-professed
Canadian history junkie, the aha moment for Fee
Fi Fo Fun came about when she remembered how
much time she had wasted in cars trying to find costume
accessories for school projects, dance recitals, plays
or to find good quality dress-up to give as gifts.
After two years of searching, Alison found a location
in Clarkson Village at 1842 Lakeshore Road W., directly
across from HomeSense. On April 1st, 2011, she launched
a website www.feefifofun.ca
and opened a small bricks & mortar shop with a washroom
and lots of parking. Soon after, Alison added a helium
balloon counter and a selection of toys that "compliment
the costume, like a wooden train whistle that can pair
with the Engineer's overalls, hat, gloves and bandana."
Alison's passion is to offer unique products and she
places emphasis on local-made like the wooden Tickle
Trunk made in Ontario and the Great Pretenders line
whose pink fairy dresses are Made in Canada. She frequently
arranges for artists to create one-of-a-kind costume
pieces like our wizard wands.
Kids say that Fee Fi Fo Fun is the
coolest store ever and parents find it small, friendly
and fun - filled with child-scaled products and knowledgeable
staff.
