I can hardly believe that we are approaching our first
anniversary on April 18th.
It has been a fun-filled and busy first year and I couldn’t
be happier with the response we’ve had. It is
a little overwhelming to think that what started from
a need to find a place for our children to explore their
creative identities without making a mess in our home,
has grown into a business visited by thousands of children
and parents. We’ve definitely made some mistakes
along the way but on the whole we’re very proud
of our little studio and appreciate all the support
we’ve received from our customers.

what
a mess! was launched to provide children with
a chance to be creative without worrying about the mess.
With all of the home design and organization programming
and magazines we’re exposed to, it’s no wonder
we feel pressure as parents to ban mess from our homes.
Not so at what a mess! We want children to experiment,
explore, build and create. Our artists do, of course,
respect the studio and their fellow artists, but as far
as making a mess with paint, glue, and glitter goes –
the bigger the mess the better! Whether your little artist
is painting on canvas, building an Olympic torch, crafting
with paper mache, or simply exploring colour combinations,
they’re having fun and learning along the way. Don’t
let the children know, but many of the educational outcomes
in the Ontario Curriculum are woven into the fun being
had at what a mess! including: fine and gross motor skills,
sequencing, patterning, cause and effect, measurement
and spacing, and more...!
We’ve been especially happy with the response we’ve
had to our extensive array of special event and birthday
party offerings. Princess parties continue to be very
popular, but we’ve also explored space, decorated
cupcakes, baked goodies in our Easy Bake ovens, and partied
with puppets! The studio is always reserved for one event
at a time so the young artists can explore all of the
stations and specialty crafts. We’ve got lots of
room for celebrating with friends and will even supply
food and beverages if it makes it easier for you. And
don’t forget about our signature custom birthday
cakes – the perfect way to end your party!

For
many parents, March break and summer holidays
pose a scheduling challenge trying to juggle children,
work, and personal time. We’re here to help. Our
camps run as either half-day or full-day events and are
limited to 18 artists per session to ensure a great instructor/artist
ratio of 6 to 1. We have specific themes for each week
throughout the summer and programs are ideally geared
for children aged 3 – 8. We offer daily instructed
specialty crafts along with lots of free time for the
children to explore the studio and the many stations specifically
chosen for that day. It’s always a great time –
but be sure to bring a bag to carry all of the wonderful
works of art!
Thanks to our wonderful customers for a great year –
we look forward to making a mess with you soon!
